What is 925 Silver
Silver 925 is a type of silver. The meaning of the number 925 is the silver content (purity) and it means that the alloy contains 92.5% silver. STERLING means "valuable" or "genuine", and the fact that sterling silver is now 925 does not detract from its beauty. This is the first time we have used the word "sterling".
Why not use 100% silver
In its pure form, silver is too soft, easily deformed and scratched, making it too delicate to be used as a material for jewellery. It is therefore alloyed with other metals, such as copper, to give it strength and make it hard enough for everyday use as an accessory.
